 If you're looking for a quiet break why not try a River Liffey Tour. The bright red, glass-roofed tour boat, ‘Spirit of Docklands’, operates between the city centre and the docklands, exploring the historical sites and landmarks along the River Liffey. The tour departs from a landing station at Bachelor's Walk, passing under O'Connell Bridge downstream past the Custom House in Docklands. It reaches the East Link Toll Bridge and the Grand Canal Basin before passing the IFSC and returning to Bachelor's Walk. The starting point is only a 15 minute walk from The North Star Hotel.

 Explore Ireland's beautiful coast with Howth Cliff walk. Start at the DART train station in Howth village and head eastwards following the green arrows, this walk takes the path along the cliffs climbing the summit  and returning along a path parallel to the outward route. The view of Lambay Island and Ireland's Eye as well as Dublin Bay are spectacular. The cliffs are great for bird watching and grey seals may also be seen. The Bonnington is just an 18 minute drive away from the trial starting point so treat yourself to a spa treatment after a tiring day of hiking.

 If none of that tickles your fancy, head down south to Cork for a once in a lifetime experience of whale watching. To date, 24 species of the worlds whales and dolphins have been recorded in irish waters. In recent years over 12 cetacean species have been seen in the clear unpolluted waters of West Cork. Whale watching has definitely taken off in west Cork the species present for over half the year. Fin Whales traditionally arrive in late summer/early autumn and continue through to the early winter months. The less predictable Humpback Whales traditionally arrive during autumn months.
